Părintele iezuit P. Teilhard de Chardin a încercat să poarte un dialog ambiţios între domenii ştiinţifice, filosofie şi teologie. În cartea sa, Fenomenul uman, el îţi expune concepţia despre materie, viaţă, om, articulată în jurul unor noţiuni importante pentru ansamblul operei: previaţă, viaţă, gândire, supraviaţă. Săgeata evoluţiei ar putea fi răspunsul său teologic la provocarea pe care ştiinţa o adreseazã creştinismului, începând cu Darwin. Acesta este contextul pentru o introducere în cosmologia savantului iezuit.
